How to make cat use scratching post?

Place the post near where your cat already scratches. Rub catnip on the sisal rope to draw them in. Play with a toy on the post to show them it is fun. Most cats start using it within a few days.

What are cat scratching posts made of?

Most posts use sisal rope, sisal hemp, or corrugated paper. Sisal is rough and lets cats dig in their claws. Some posts have wood bases or carpet covers. Our posts range from $7.99 to $347 depending on the materials.

Why do cats scratch furniture?

Cats scratch to mark territory with scent glands in their paws. They also scratch to stretch their back muscles and remove old claw sheaths. A good post gives them a legal place to do this.

What are the best cat scratching posts?

The best post matches your cat's scratching style. Tall sisal posts work for vertical scratchers. Flat cardboard pads work for horizontal scratchers. Our top seller is the Pet Cat Tree Toys Cat Scratch Post for $30.95.
